Concrete Surface Preparation Video 4… Mechanical Surface Profiling
Mechanical surface preparation is the process of profiling concrete’s surface using tools like grinders, scarifiers, or media blasters. Mechanical surface preparation is useful for achieving the full range of surface profiles. These methods are often necessary when the concrete has significant deterioration or damage such as spalling or delamination. Thicker overlays also require more aggressive profiles that allow the material to adhere better.
This video demonstrates the use of multiple types of grinders. We discuss the different kinds of grinder heads, their use, and best practices. Additionally, a scarifier is used to get a very aggressive surface profile. During the demonstrations, several common concrete flaws are identified and treated using the grinder. Finally, in review, this part outlines the best methods of preparation to yield each CSP level.
